Using Corpus to Teach Grammar

 Hii Jellyfish 🪼

How are you? I hope you are all doing fine. 💫

I am back with the first post of this year, which is about using Corpus for Data Driven Learning. Now, you may ask, "What is a corpus?" It is a collection of written texts; one may search for a vocabulary, phrase or a grammar point to find out how it is used in different written texts.

For this task, we were expected to teach any grammar point using Corpus to high school students and create a lesson plan based on our activity papers. I have worked with Sümeyya Ataş; you already know her 🥰, but we have also worked with Servet Zayif. We had some problems with communication 😭however, we get along well and end up with such a good job.💫 I am happy that finally we have found perfect teammates, so special thanks to my teammates once again

We used Canva and Corpus Mate to teach "will and be going to" to prep. high school students. At first, it was hard to create a five-page-long activity papers. However, we had a feedback session to improve our papers. After that, things got so much easier and fun to deal with. You can check our activity paper and lesson plan.

I want to remind you that our lesson plan is designed according to small groups of classrooms that have technology access. If your class is crowded or you do not have proper access to the internet, technology etc. it could be hard to use Corpus to teach something to your students.

Have you ever used Corpus?

Do not hesitate to share your ideas about our activity papers. 💫

Thanks for reading that much! ✨

See you next time Jellyfish 🪼🩵
